After coming back to win the first game of a double header 5-4, the Oak Harbor Legion AA baseball team lost the second tilt 6-3 to visiting Ferndale Tuesday, June 19.

Oak Harbor (3-4, 5-10) takes part in the Steamer Classic Tournament at Anacortes this weekend and then returns to league action with Bellingham (5-0) in Oak Harbor at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 26.

At Anacortes, Oak Harbor opens with Bellingham at 6 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the Wildcats face the Northwest Rebels at noon and Bellevue at 2:30 p.m. Sunday’s game depends on the outcome of the first three.

With two outs in the seventh inning in the opening game with Ferndale, Oak Harbor picked up its winning run on Brent Mertins’ base hit after Jack Richter singled, Grant Schroeder reached on an error and Cory Cameron singled.

The Wildcats erased a 3-0 Ferndale lead with a four-run third. Oak Harbor mixed three walks, a hit batter, an error with an RBI double by Richter and an RBI single by Mertins for the four-spot.

Richter and Mertins each finished with two hits and two RBI.

Oak Harbor batted as the visiting team in the second game and scored in the first. Nate Stanford singled, went to second on a wild pitch, was bunted by third by Mike Maletto and scored on another wild pitch.

From that point, Oak Harbor had little offense until the seventh when it scored two more runs. Andrew Snavely started the seventh with a single, ending a string of 11-straight Wildcat outs, and Anthony Steward followed with a double. After Snavely scored on a wild pitch, Maletto doubled in Stewart.

Snavely led the offense with two hits. Richter and Clay Doughty also had base hits in the game.
