Six of the North Whidbey Aquatic Club’s top swimmers competed in elite meets this month.

John Hu took part in the USA Nationals against the country’s best swimmers at Palo Alto, Calif., Aug. 2 to 6 and finished 126th in the 400 individual medley (4:39.72).

His brother Price Hu attended the USA Junior Nationals (18-and-under) in Palo Alto Aug. 8 to 13 and placed 142nd in the 200 butterfly (2:09.7).

Sister Ciara Hu and teammate Emily Huffer competed in the North American Challenge Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, Aug. 4 to 6 against teams from Pacific Northwest Swimming, California, Canada and Mexico.

Ciara Hu (girls 17/18) finaled in the 200 (2:30.22) and 400 (5:11.69) IM, 100 (1:07.77) and 200 butterfly (2:23.88), and the 100 breaststroke (1:21.48). Her 400 IM time is a NWAC record.

Huffer (girls 13/14) reached the finals in 400 IM (5:19.73), 200 backstroke (2:31.67), 200 butterfly (2:31.54) and 800 freestyle (9:34.58).

Olivia Tungate (girls 9/10) and Cole Weinstein (boys 15/16) swam at the Western Zone Championships Aug. 9 to 13 in Clovis, Calif., against competitors form eight states.

Tungate set team records in the 50 (33.82) and 100 fly (74.53) and also finaled in the 100 free (1:08.99). She was a member of the PNS free and medley relays that placed second and swam a blistering 31.29 in her leg of the 200 free relay.

Weinstein set personal records in the 100 (1:00.71) and 400 (4:36.95) free and the 200 fly (2:21.05) as well as PRing in all four of his relay legs.
