The North Whidbey Little League had a good turn out of young, enthusiastic baseball and softball players and their parents at the second annual Family Day held Saturday afternoon in the Hillcrest Elementary School gymnasium.
In addition to accepting registrations for the upcoming season, league president Walt Bankowski, vice president Bryan Smith and a group of volunteers spent the afternoon working with kids from five years on up to help them improve their hitting, fielding and pitching skills in preparation for opening day.
Several of the 11 to-13-year-old softball pitchers were throwing the ball very well during drills and all of the younger hitters were intently concentrating on making good contact with the ball while hitting off batting tees into strategically placed nets.
It’s still not too late to register, you’d better hurry up.
Registration forms may be obtained at all area schools and many local businesses including Wendy’s, Dairy Queen, Big 5 Sporting Goods, McDonald’s and 7-Eleven.
League tryouts begin on Saturday, Feb. 17.
April 14 is the official opening day of the regular season for the North Whidbey Little League, but some games are scheduled to be played April 9.
