North Whidbey Gold finishes stellar season with two wins / Junior baseball

The North Whidbey Little League junior baseball Gold wrapped up an impressive regular season by sweeping a doubleheader against Bonney Lake-Sumner Saturday, June 10, at Fort Nugent Park.

The Oak Harbor club, coached by Pete Guzman, finished the season with a 17-3 record. Team members are Stuart Bassett, Dylan Dearing, Trevor Jennings, Conner Lacy, Thomas Mayhen, Dylan Roberts, Saniel Santiago, Gabe Smith, Justin Vasileff, Kaden Witte and Tyler Zenger.

Santiago stole home for the winning run as the Gold edged Bonney Lake-Sumner in the first game Saturday, then North Whidbey rolled to a 16-3 win in the second.

The Gold and North Whidbey Purple will combine to form an all-star team to be coached by Guzman. Guzman noted that North Whidbey might be the only area league to enter a team in the District 11 tournament; in that case, North Whidbey will automatically advance to the state tournament in July in Shoreline.
