No road weariness for Wolves / Softball

Not showing any negative effects while playing its third away game in four days, the Coupeville High School softball team drubbed Meridian 12-2 in six innings Monday, April 24.

The Wolves (3-1, 12-1) get Tuesday off and then host Port Townsend (0-4, 0-9) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26.

The long bus ride to Meridian didn’t slow the Coupeville offense, which flew out of the gate with four first-inning runs. Lauren Rose began the game with a single, then with one out, Katrina McGranahan belted a long home run. An error, a single by Hope Lodell and walks to Veronica Crownover and Tiffany Briscoe helped produce the other two runs.

In the third, the Wolves scored two more times behind singles by Mikayla Elfrank and Tamika Nastali.

An inning later, Coupeville tacked on three more. Jae LeVine singled and scored on McGranahan’s triple. Wright and Crownover singled, chasing home a pair of runs.

Coupeville finished its scoring in the sixth with three runs, thanks to a walk to McGranahan, a double by Wright and singles by Lodell and Briscoe.

McGranahan came within a single of hitting for the cycle. Wright finished with a double and single, and Lodell had two base hits.

Rose, LeVine, Elfrank, Crownover, Briscoe and Nastali all singled, as every starter collected at least one hit.

McGranahan also starred in the circle, pitching a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Both Meridian (2-10) runs came in the sixth; one was unearned. A Coupeville error with two outs in the sixth was the Wolves’ first in the past three games.
