No home match for Wolves | Soccer

Even if Coupeville High School wins its 5 p.m. home soccer match with Port Townsend tonight (Thursday, Oct. 30), it will not get to host a first-round match in the district tournament, according to coach Troy Cowan.

Tonight’s match with Port Townsend will break a tie for second place in the final Olympic League 1A standings.

The second-place team is supposed to host a game against the third-place team from the Nisqually League Saturday, Nov. 1.

The Olympic League’s third-place team has to travel to the home of the second-place Nisqually League team.

The Olympic League requires all district matches to be held on artificial turf and Coupeville’s Mickey Clark Field has natural grass; therefore, Coupeville can not host a match.

“Supposedly, the closest turf field is in Kingston or Lake Washington (Kirkland),” Cowan said. “We are going to play either Vashon Island or Bellevue Christian School in the playoffs.”

Cowan noted that the higher seed earned the home-field advantage, but Coupeville will lose that opportunity by playing in Kingston or Lake Washington.

If the Wolves play in Kingston, the match will start at noon Saturday. If at Lake Washington High School, the starting time will be 5:30 p.m.
