Archbishop Murphy’s softball team collected its first win and Coupeville suffered its first loss as the Wildcats defeated the host Wolves 11-5 Monday, March 25.

Murphy (1-3, 1-5) scored two runs in the first and, with the help of a home run, added four more in the third to burst to a 6-0 lead.

Coupeville worked its way back with a five-run fourth. Singles by Madi Roberts, Hailey Hammer and Bessie Walstad loaded the bases. Roberts scored on a passed ball, then with two outs, Bree Messner walked to reload the bases. Chevy Reyes walked, forcing in one run, then Madeline Strasburg ripped a base hit that cleared the bases.

But the Wildcat bats heated up again, scoring two in the sixth on another home run and added three more in the seventh.

In all, Archbishop Murphy slugged 14 hits (including a double, triple and two home runs) and accepted seven walks to pile up the 11 runs.

Coupeville collected eight hits, led by Walstad with three and Hammer with two.

Neither team committed an error.

The Wolves (1-1, 2-1) go to Granite Falls (1-2, 2-3) at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 27.
