The Oak Harbor High School baseball team committed five errors to help host Marysville-Pilchuck complete a sweep of their three-game series with a 4-2 win Friday, April 4.

The first-place Tomahawks (5-0, 5-1) scored only one earned run off Oak Harbor starter Teddy Peterschmidt, who gave up eight hits and a walk while striking out two.

The Oak Harbor defense wasn’t the only problem. The Wildcats collected only one hit off a trio of M-P pitchers and struck out seven times. In the three-game series, Oak Harbor recorded only seven hits.

Marysville-Pilchuck had its own defensive problems as miscues helped Oak Harbor score its two runs.

The Wildcats scored in the top of the first when Brent Mertins led off by being hit by a pitch, moved up on an error and scored on Brandon Bailey’s fielder’s choice.

The Tomahawk leadoff hitter reached on a two-base error and then scored on a double to tie the score in the bottom of the first.

In the second inning, Marysville-Pilchuck scored two runs on two errors and two hits.

The Tomahawks picked up their only earned run in the fourth on a walk and two singles.

Mertins scored Oak Harbor’s other run in the fifth, starting the inning with the Wildcats’ lone hit. He went to second on a ground out and then to third and home on two passed balls.

Oak Harbor (1-4, 1-7) faces Marysville Getchell (1-4, 3-4) in a three-game series this week, starting in Marysville at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 8. The teams meet in Oak Harbor at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, and then its back to Marysville on Friday, April 11.
