Mistakes doom ‘Cats in soccer loss to Marysville

Two defensive mistakes late in the first half doomed the Wildcat girls’ soccer team in its 2-0 loss at Marysville-Pilchuck Tuesday.

Coach Jeff Laiblin said, “We pushed hard the second half, having them on the ropes at times but unable to hit the knock out punch for the goal. Take away the mistakes in the first half; it was a great team effort.”

An error by the ‘Cat defense allowed the Tomahawks to drive home their first goal at the 39th minute. Two-and-a-half minutes later, seconds before the break, they struck again off an Oak Harbor miscue.

Laiblin added, “If we could have gone mistake free, I believe based on how the game finished we would have come out on top in overtime.”

The Wildcats (0-14) host Cascade (3-8-2) Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the final home match of the season. Cascade nipped the ‘Cats 1-0 in the teams’ first meeting this fall.
