The Oak Harbor Legion baseball team struggled against older competition over the weekend at the Lynden Wood Bat Tournament.
Oak Harbor, an “A” team of 15- and 16-year-olds, won one of four games against “AA” teams of 17-year-olds.
Saturday, June 4, Oak Harbor lost to Bellingham 4-3 and Blaine 8-3. Sunday, Oak Harbor fell to Mount Vernon 4-0 before defeating Abbotsford, B.C., 5-4.
Coach Tyson VanDam said, “We hit the ball well…but just couldn’t get the big hit with wood when we needed it.”
Oak Harbor left 44 runners on base, 34 in scoring position, in the tournament.
Oak Harbor travels to Bellingham Tuesday, June 7, for a double header at Sehome High School beginning at 5 p.m. and then to Arlington Thursday, June 16, for a double header beginning at 4:30.
