Late T-bird goal sinks Oak Harbor / Soccer

A late goal helped host Shorewood slip by the Oak Harbor High School soccer team Thursday, Sept. 27.

The Wildcats trailed 1-0 at halftime, then used a goal by Mikhaela Cortez, who headed in a corner kick from Natalie Plush, to tie the score.

The Thunderbirds (6-1, 7-2) scored with four minutes left to lock up the match and avoid the upset.

“(The) first half we were fairly defensive,” coach Mike Lonborg said. “(The) second half the girls came out with a little more energy and attacked a lot more.”

“Mikhaela Cortez played a solid game, (and) Jada Matthews played well in goal,” he added.

Mountlake Terrace (1-5-1, 1-7-1) plays in Oak Harbor (1-7, 3-7) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2.
