Oak Harbor’s mathematical chance at being a part of the WesCo North post season football playoff picture were dashed Friday night when the host Lake Stevens Vikings beat the Wildcats 28-13.
The loss dropped Oak Harbor’s season record to 2-3 in league games and 3-5 overall, while the win kept Lake Stevens (4-1, 6-2) in second place in the league and secured the Vikings a playoff spot.
The Wildcats scored the first touchdown of the game when quarterback J Jordan hooked up with Donovan Hunt on a 23-yard scoring strike.
Kevin Flavin’s point-after kick was blocked.
However, the Oak Harbor defense made the 6-0 lead stand up until halftime.
In the third quarter, Viking quarterback Nick Baker threw the first three of touchdown passes hitting Trevor Riecks from 11-yards out to give the Vikings a 7-6 lead they never surrendered.
Lake Stevens scored another touchdown in the third quarter to lead 14-6 and added another on a Baker pass early in the fourth quarter to up the margin to 21-6.
Jordan ran for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to narrow the lead to 21-13, but another Baker to Riecks scoring strike, this one covering 40 yards, sealed the deal for the Vikings.
Oak Harbor plays its final game of the season Friday night against undefeated Marysville-Pilchuck.
Kickoff at Wildcat Memorial Stadium is at 7 p.m.
