Krantz qualifies for state tournament / Boys bolf

Oak Harbor’s Nick Krantz finished ninth in the 14-team District 1 boys golf tournament Monday and Wednesday, May 14 and 16, at the Battle Creek Golf Course and earned a spot in the state tournament.

The state tournament is Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22 and 23, at the Creek at Qualchan Golf Course in Spokane.

Krantz, a sophomore, finished 11th in the district last year and went on to place 62nd at state.

Krantz shot rounds of 81 and 78 this week on the par 73 course for a two-day total of 159.

Jozef Koznek of Everett was the tournament medalist with a 148.

Oak Harbor junior Haven Brown, who qualified for state as a freshman, finished tied for 20th with a 172 (82, 90).

After a three-hole playoff, he earned a spot as an alternate to state.

The top 18 (scores of 170 or better) qualified for state.

Oak Harbor’s Nick Whitley placed 39th out if 46 at district with a 187 (90, 97).
