Former Olympic champion Megan Jendrick of Tacoma broke the masters world record in the 50-meter, short-course breaststroke at the Whidbey Island Short Course Masters meet at John Vanderzicht Pool Nov. 21.
Jendrick, 26, swimming in the women’s 25-29 division, clocked a 31.87 for the new record. She edged the former mark of 31.97 set by Nicole Heidemann in 2009.
Jendrick, who swam in the Olympics as Megan Quann, also has the world master’s records in the long course 50 and 100 breaststrokes.
Oak Harbor’s Harvey Prosser set a PNA record of 30:19.54 in the 80-84 men’s 1,500 free.
The second annual Whidbey meet was attended by 30 teams and 114 athletes.
Prosser also won the 50 fly (1:03.95). Other North Whidbey Masters winners were Allan McDougal (65-69 men, 200 breaststroke, 3:13.85; 100 backstroke, 1:32.37; 50 free, 36.66; 100 breaststroke, 1:41.48), Becky Klieman (45-49 women, 200 individual medley, 3:11.26; 200 free, 2:42.62), Lisa Gerardi (55-59 women, 50 fly, 53.16; 50 free, 41.44) and Ron Rhinehart (50-54 men, 200 free, 2:32.13).
North Whidbey finished fourth out of 15 women’s teams with 134 points, sixth out of 25 men’s teams with 185 and fourth overall with 379.
Skagit Valley Masters Swimming won the women’s (797) and overall (1,303) titles. Downtown/Bellevue Swim Team took the men’s division (480).
Others who placed for North Whidbey: Rhinehart (2, 400 free, 5:20.52; 4, 100 free, 1:08.42), Katelin Fitzgerald (25-29 women, 2, 50 breaststroke, 36.7; 2, 50 free, 31.08), and Thomas Pierce, Joy Thompson, Glena Kelso and Duncan Kelso (4, mixed 200 free relay, 3:17.24; 4, 200 medley relay, 3:39.05).
