Improved Wolves give conference leaders a fight / Soccer

Late goals helped first-place Klahowya put away a stuubborn Coupeville High School soccer team 4-1 at Mickey Clark Field Tuesday, April 25.

The Wolves stunned the Eagles (7-0, 10-2-1) by scoring first. William Nelson stole a pass and hit the upper corner eight minutes into the match to give Coupeville an early lead.

The Wolves held the advantage for about 20 minutes before Klahowya scored the equalizer.

“It took them a while in the second half to take the lead, and we did not concede the third and fourth goal until the final seven minutes with our guys exhausted,” Coupeville coach Kyle Nelson said. “Looking at the results over the season against Klahowya shows the tremendous growth the boys have made.”

The Wolves fell to the Eagles 7-0 and 5-0 earlier this season.

Third-place Coupeville (3-5, 4-9-1) finishes the regular season at second-place Port Townsend (4-2, 6-6) at 6 p.m. Friday, April 28.

The Wolves begin the postseason with a play-in district match with the fourth-place Nisqually League team at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 4, in Oak Harbor.
