A couple of breakdowns proved costly as the Oak Harbor High School soccer team lost 3-1 to Glacier Peak Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

“Peak played well,” Oak Harbor coach Mike Lonborg said, “but I thought we played them tough with the exception of three or four mistakes.”

The Grizzlies (4-4-1, 5-7-1) scored two of their goals off corner kicks, which was a troublesome area for the Wildcats, Lonborg said.

“We had a serious lack of communication,” Lonborg said.

Glacier Peak scored after a corner kick with two minutes left in the first half, then Oak Harbor knotted the score behind Nalani Gabbert’s penalty kick five minutes into the second half.

Glacier Peak put the match away with two goals in 90 seconds midway through the second period. The first came when the Grizzlies beat the Wildcat goalie to the ball away from the net, and the second was headed in after a corner kick.

One positive, Lonborg said, was his team executed on some of the “things we have been working on.”

The Wildcats (1-6-2, 5-6-2) play Shorewood (6-2-2, 7-5-2) at 7 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium Thursday, Oct. 23.
