Cheerleaders from throughout Western Washington on teams both big and small invaded Oak Harbor on Saturday.
Forty-two teams in all, backed by their loyal supporters, packed the dome and the gymnasium for Spiritfest 2007.
Sponsored by the Oak Harbor High School cheerleaders the annual event was a rousing success and gave the squads the opportunity to strut their stuff in front of a large crowd in preparation for the state championships scheduled for late March in Yakima.
“This is the 13th time we have held the competition,” a harried Oak Harbor coach Pam Headridge said in between making sure all the teams took the floor on time and running the sound system for the Wildcats. “Even with the bad weather we’ve been experiencing lately, just one team pulled out of the competition.”
Competition was divided into large, medium and small co-ed, small and medium varsity and four other levels from tiny small to senior co-ed.
Also included in the competition were stunt and partner competition at various levels in addition to individual events from mini through senior.
Oak Harbor scored the most points of any team and was the winner in the large co-ed division.
