Three Oak Harbor High School golfers qualified for the state girls 4A tournament at Pasco’s Sun Willows Golf Course next Tuesday and Wednesday, May 25 and 26, by placing in the top 15 at the Northwest District Tournament this week at the Gallery.

Seniors Ashley Johnson (seventh, 187 strokes), Melany Cone (10th, 196) and Simone Hamilton (11th, 197) earned the state trip. Johnson qualified for state last year as well.

Cone rallied from 24th place after the first round to earn her spot.

Three other Wildcats, all juniors, survived the cut after Tuesday’s round to play Thursday. Sasha Olson finished 21st (205), Millie Goebel 23rd (209) and Mara Cortez 31st (215) out of 65 golfers.

Tuesday’s round determined the team championship and Kamiak edged Oak Harbor by one stroke 492-493 for the team title.

Oak Harbor coach Andy Wesley said, “The seniors showed their experience and maintained composure during a stressful second round of districts. I am very proud of their accomplishments throughout the season and excited to see them go to state and represent Oak Harbor High School. The juniors finished the season strong, with them all qualifying to the second round of districts.”
