The Golden Eagles, who entered the game with a 5-1 record, didn’t expect much of a fight from the winless Wildcats.

Oak Harbor, however, stunned the Golden Eagles by taking an 11-9 first-quarter lead. The Wildcats continued to stay with Ferndale in the second period, trailing by only two, 22-20, at halftime

Ferndale shifted into a higher gear in the second half, outscoring Oak Harbor 46-7.

The Golden Eagles took control in the third period, going up 39-24, then continued to pour it on, outscoring Oak Harbor 29-3 in the final quarter.

Ferndale controlled the boards, outrebounding Oak Harbor 45-23. It also had 11 less turnovers (29-18).

Lindsey Honeycutt paced the Eagles with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Jinai Guzman scored over half Oak Harbor’s points, draining three three-pointers on the way to 14 points.

Rashanna Graham added six points, Janae Payne three, Bree Langrock two and Deja Bunch two.

Oak Harbor (0-8) plays Bellingham (1-6) at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, in the two-day Bulldog Holiday Classic tournament in Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon (2-5) and Marysville-Pilchuck (0-7) round out the field. The two winners and two losers match up Tuesday, Dec. 30.
