Granite Falls fastpitch team bowled over host Coupeville 17-2 Friday, March 26.

The Tigers were picked by the league’s coaches to win the Cascade Conference title and so far they have lived up to the expectations. Granite Falls is undefeated, winning its first five games. The win over the Wolves dropped Coupeville’s record to 0-2 in league and 1-3 overall.

Granite Falls scored at least three runs in each of the game’s five innings and slugged 16 hits. Alyssa Arndt did much of the damage by going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. She also pitched the first four innings and limited the Wolves to one run.

Coach Denny Zylstra saw some positives in the one-sided loss and was pleased with the attitude of his young players. He said his freshmen “battled,” and he was particularly pleased with the offensive approach of Bessie Walstad who singled and drove in a run.

Coupeville’s game at Sultan (0-4, 0-5) Monday was rained out and will be played Friday, April 2. The Wolves host South Whidbey (1-1) Wednesday, March 31, at 4 p.m.
