A day after playing first-place Archbishop Thomas Murphy tough in a 5-0 loss, the Coupeville fastpitch team collapsed in a 15-1 loss to second-place Granite Falls.
Pitcher Autumn Stevenson, in what coach Jackie Calkins
called “an excellent game,” held the powerful Wildcats (8-2, 8-1) to one run
heading into the fifth inning Tuesday, April 19, in Everett. Stevenson gave up
only two earned runs and was aided by strong play by third baseman Alexis
Trumbull, according to Calkins.
The Wolves failed to supply Stevenson with any offensive
support and collected only one hit, a double by Sydney Aparicio.
Calkins said, “Overall progress
continues to improve. All players are more aggressive at the plate. There was a
lot of solid contact today, but too many hits were right to the defense.”
That progress, however, took a step
back Wednesday, April 20, when Granite Falls rolled to the easy win in
Coupeville.
The Tigers (6-2, 5-2) ripped 14
hits and the Wolves committed eight errors.
Offensively, Coupeville rapped
three hits, a single by Trumbull, a double by Roxy Piechowski and a triple by
Bessie Walstad.
Coupeville (0-7, 0-6) plays Sultan
(4-7, 4-6) in a double header at home Friday, April 22, at 3 p.m.
