It is not often you out hit your opponent in fastpitch and lose by 10 runs.

That’s what happens when you commit 10 errors.

The Coupeville girls have been plagued by errors all season, and Wednesday, April 21, at South Whidbey was the worst.

The Wolves out hit the Falcons 10-7, but South Whidbey out scored Coupeville 15-5. South Whidbey (6-4, 6-5) did not commit an error in the six-inning game.

Wolves’ coach Denny Zylstra said, “We did everything but catch the ball.” He added, “I’m sure it is” becoming a mental thing. Eleven of the South Whidbey runs were unearned.

The defensive mistakes didn’t slow down the Coupeville offense. Grace LaPoint, Bessie Walstad and Maria Rockwell were all 2-for-3. LaPoint scored a run, Walstad drove in a run and Rockwell added two RBI.

Alexis Trumbull went 1-for-2 and scored two runs.

When the two teams met March 31, South Whidbey won 8-7, and Coupeville out hit the Falcons 7-5 in that one as well but committed three errors to South Whidbey’s one.

The Wolves (0-10, 1-11) play Cedarcrest (5-4) at home Friday, April 23, at 4 p.m.
