Fall prep preview / Coupeville tennis

Coach: Ken Stange.

2018: 8-6; 7-6, fourth in Emerald City League.

Note: Coupeville and South Whidbey are the only North Sound Conference schools with boys tennis; therefore, the island teams compete in the Emerald City League.

Returning lettermen: Drake Borden, Mason Grove, James Wood, Zach Ginnings, Andrew Aparicio, Thane Peterson, Kobe Schreiber.

Key newcomers: Miles Davidson, Ty Hamilton.

Coach’s comment: “I expect us to compete hard and win some more individual matches. I hope our team is able to win a few, too. We finished fourth out of eight in the ECL last year, finishing that well again would mean we had a strong season.”

Strength: Experience. (“Another strength is Drake, who played all off-season and is primed for a solid season at No. 1 singles.”)

Weakness: Lack of depth, small squad. (“Until our eighth player has 10 practices, we will have to forfeit one of the five matches.”)

First match: South Whidbey at Coupeville, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.
