The six-day wait was worth it. Behind three goals by Caylie Etherington, the Oak Harbor High School soccer team won 3-1 at Anacortes Friday, Oct. 2, in a non-league match.
The two teams were originally scheduled to meet the previous Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, the offenses started to pick up. Anacortes (2-7) struck first just two minutes into the second period.
Then Etherington took over with assists from Lydia Peplinski, Malia Hansen and Alyssa Cross.
Etherington’s hat trick helped Oak Harbor break out of a scoring slump. The Wildcats netted only two goals in the previous five matches.
It was also the second most goals for Oak Harbor in a contest this season, trailing only the five the Wildcats tallied in the season opener with Lakewood Sept. 8.
Now Oak Harbor (0-5, 3-5-1) hopes to carry the scoring momentum into its next match as it looks for its first Wesco win when Meadowdale (1-4, 2-6) visits Wildcat Memorial Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8.
