Eagles edge Wolves in 5 / Volleyball

Cedar Park Christian handed the Coupeville High School volleyball team its second loss of the season by beating the host Wolves 3-2 Thursday, Oct. 11.

Coupeville (4-2, 7-2) dropped into a tie with South Whidbey for second place in the North South Conference. The two Whidbey schools play at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, in Coupeville.

Cedar Park Christian defeated Coupeville 25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-5.

“Tough loss last night,” coach Cory Whitmore said. “I’m impressed that we pushed the game to five after starting out the match with a rough first set.

“I thought we showed a lot of fight, but it came down to too many attacking errors.”

Scout Smith handed out 24 assists to guide the offense. Maya Toomey-Stout ended with 14 kills, Emma Smith 11 and Chelsea Prescott six.

Ashley Menges fired three aces, and Toomey-Stout and Prescott added two each.

Defensively, Emma Mathusek collected 13 digs, Toomey-Stout nine and Prescott five.

Emma Smith had five blocks and Hannah Davidson two.
