Despite 2 school records, Wildcats fall to Arlington / Softball

Although two Oak Harbor High School softball players set school single season records, Arlington squeaked out an 8-7 win over the host Wildcats in a seesaw battle Tuesday, April 30.

The Wildcats rallied to score single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game, then the Eagles pushed across a run in the final inning to sneak away with the win.

Oak Harbor’s Cierra LeGendre rapped two hits, giving her 31 for the season. That tops Jessica Kallander’s former record of 29 set in 2008.

Miranda Wilson scored two runs to up her total to 25, bettering the old standard of 23 set by Carolyn Barr in 1996 and Shawna Steele in 2013.

The loss keeps Oak Harbor in the 11th spot in the RPI rankings with two games left; the top 10 move on to the postseason.

The Wildcats (2-10, 4-14) host first-place Meadowdale (11-0, 13-4) at 4 p.m. Monday, May 6, in the final home game.

Oak Harbor finishes the regular season at Cedarcrest (5-6, 8-9) at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.

Arlington 8, Oak Harbor 7

Arlington scored two runs in the top of the first inning in a game that featured a handful of lead changes.

Oak Harbor tied the game with two runs in its half of the first, then Arlington tallied a run in the second to go up once again.

The Wildcats countered with three runs in the second to make it 5-3.

The Eagles scored twice in the third to tie the game and added to runs in the fifth to go up 7-5.

Oak Harbor scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth to make it 7-7.

A walk, single and sacrifice fly helped Arlington score the winning run in the top of the seventh.

The Wildcats Emily Wilson walked with one out in the seventh by was left stranded.

LeGendre and Miranda Wilson both had big days at the plate. LeGendre slugged a double and home run, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Miranda Wilson ripped two triples, scored two runs and drove in two more.

Cierra Dean had a single and two RBI for the only other Oak Harbor hit.

Both teams were hurt by poor defense. Oak Harbor committed seven errors and the Eagles five; both teams surrendered five unearned runs.
