Central Whidbey Little League’s 11/12 baseball team opened District 11 play at South Whidbey by slipping past Sedro-Woolley 2-1 Sunday, June 28.

Sedro-Woolley earned the right to face Central Whidbey, which had a bye in the first round, by defeating North Whidbey 10-4 Saturday.

Central Whidbey meets Burlington in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 1.

Burlington rolled to 12-0 and 17-0 wins over South Whidbey and Anacortes in its opening games.

Noah Meffert and Ulrik Wells scored for Central Whidbey in its squeaker over Sedro-Woolley, and Meffert and David Prescott provided stellar defensive plays.

Reliever Matt Hilborn closed out the game to preserve the win.

In North Whidbey’s loss to Sedro-Woolley, it surrendered six runs, all with two outs, in the top of the second inning and could never recover.

Sedro-Woolley pushed the lead to 10-1 before North Whidbey plated three runs in the sixth.

Austin Boesch tripled and scored North Whidbey’s first run in the fourth inning and singled during the three-run seventh.

North Whidbey takes on Anacortes at 6 p.m. Monday, June 30, in a loser-out game. North Whidbey will need to win three straight loser-out games to reach the championship series.
