Coupeville, Oak Harbor teams head to playoffs

As the regular season winds down for Coupeville and Oak Harbor high school spring sports teams, the postseason gears up.

Here’s a rundown of what’s ahead for the Wolves and Wildcats.

Soccer

Coupeville (6-7-2) enters the District 3 playoffs as the Olympic League’s No. 2 seed and plays Bellevue Christian (9-4) in a loser-out match at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Oak Harbor’s Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

The winner goes to the four-team, double elimination portion of the tournament and plays Vashon Island, the Nisqually League champion, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Mount Tahoma High School. The tournament continues May 10 and 12 at Orting High School.

The top two finishers in the district playoffs qualify for the state tournament.

The Oak Harbor High School soccer team did not qualify for the postseason.

Baseball

The league champion Wolves (13-4) get a first-round bye and then play the Nisqually League’s No. 2 team at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Charles Wright Academy in the four-team, double-elimination portion of the district tournament.

The tournament continues May 10 and 12 at CWA and Curtis High School. The top two teams qualify for state.

Oak Harbor did not make the district tournament.

Tennis

The Olympic League 1A tournament will be played in Coupeville at 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 7.

Tacoma’s Sprinker Recreation Center hosts the District 3 tournament at 3 p.m. May 16 and 8 a.m. May 17. State is at the Yakima Tennis Center May 25 and 26.

Oak Harbor plays in the Wesco North tournament at 1 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, May 8 and 9, at Snohomish High School, followed by the district meet May 15 and 16 at Arlington.

The 3A state tournament is at Kennewick’s Tri-City Court Club May 25 and 26.

Track

Coupeville is the host of the Olympic League 1A championships at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4.

The District 3 1A meet is 3:25 p.m. Friday, May 18, and 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at Renton Memorial Stadium.

The state meet is May 24-26 at Eastern Washington State University in Cheney.

Several Coupeville athletes are ranked among the state’s best in 1A going into this week: Lindsey Roberts, seventh, 100 hurdles, 15.82; Jacob Smith, fifth, 100, 11.32; fourth, 200, 22.96; Danny Conlisk, eighth, 400, 51.97; boys 4×100 relay (Jean Lund Olsen, Cameron Toomey-Stout, Sean Toomey-Stout, Smith), sixth, 45.01; and Ariah Bepler, fourth, high jump, 6-0.

Oak Harbor gets the postseason going with the Wesco North meet at 3:30 p.m. May 9 and 11 in Arlington.

The district meet is set for Shoreline Stadium on May 16 and 18.

Tacoma’s Mount Tahoma High School hosts the state meet May 24-26.

Oak Harbor athletes with marks among the 3A state top 10 are Jeff Gordon, 10th, 200, 22.72; boys 4×100 relay (Dorian Hardin, Taeson Hardin, Andrew Miller, Gordon), fifth, 43.35; Isaac Gomez, seventh, discus, 150-08; Lydia Dorsey, fourth, javelin, 124; and Samantha Hines, seventh, javelin, 114-09.

Softball

Coupeville, the Olympic League champion, begins the four-team, double-elimination district tournament at 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

The tournament finishes the following day with the first- and second-place teams advancing to the state tournament in Richland May 25 and 26.

Oak Harbor did not qualify for the postseason.

Boys Golf

The Wildcats play in the Wesco North Divisional Tournament at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Marysville’s Cedarcrest Golf Course.

The district match is set for 11 a.m. May 14 and 16 at the Battle Creek Public Golf Course in Tulalip.

The state tournament is May 22 and 23 in Spokane at the Creek at Qualchan Golf Course.

Girls Golf

Oak Harbor heads to the Snohomish Golf Course for the Wesco North Tournament at noon Wednesday, May 9.

Everett’s Walter Hall Golf Course hosts the district tournament May 15 and 16.

The state tournament is May 22 and 23 at Spokane’s Indian Canyon Golf Course.
