Coupeville loses pair / Baseball

The Coupeville High School baseball team dropped two games over the weekend; one was close, the other not so much.

The Wolves were edged 2-1 at Lynden Christian Friday, March 15, and then lost 13-1 in five innings to visiting Overlake Saturday.

Coupeville scored in the first inning at Lynden Christian on two-out base hits by Jake Pease and Dane Lucero.

The Wolves loaded the bases with one out in the second inning but couldn’t push across a run. From that point, the Wolves had only three base runners, including getting the first two on in the sixth before a trio of strikeouts ended the threat.

Both Lyncs’ runs came in the second inning on three walks and an error. They finished the game with only one hit.

Daniel Olson, Hawthorne Wolfe and Ulrik Wells also had base hits for Coupeville.

Overlake scored three runs in the first inning and seven in the second to put the game away early.

Pease and Gavin Knoblich collected the only Coupeville hits.

The Wolves (0-2) head into North Sound Conference play next week when they face Cedar Park Christian-Bothell three times.

The Eagles, one of the top 1A programs in the state, will host games Monday and Friday at Redmond’s Marymoor Park. The Wolves will entertain the Eagles at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 20.
