Coupeville girls win three-team meet / Track

The Coupeville High School girls finished first and the boys third in a three-team track meet at Port Townsend’s Blue Heron Middle School Friday, April 28.

The girls meet was one-sided as the Wolves piled up 96 points, easily defeating host Port Townsend (40) and North Mason (26).

The boys meet was a dogfight, and Port Townsend squeaked out the win with 57 points, edging North Mason (55) and Coupeville (54).

The meet closed out the regular season for the Wolves. Coupeville goes to North Kitsap for the Olympic League championships at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6. The contest will also serve as a sub-district meet for the 1A schools, determining which athletes advance to the district championships May 19 and 20 in Renton.

Coupeville will host the Olympic League junior varsity championships at 2 p.m. Monday, May 8.

Three Coupeville girls won two individual events at Port Townsend: Lucy Sandahl (800, 2:44.84; 1,600, 6:06.89), Lindsey Roberts (100 hurdles, 16.87; long jump, 15-06-5) and Skyler Lawrence (shot put, 29-02; discus, 83-07).

Roberts also ran on two winning relays with Lauren Grove, Mallory Kortuem and Maya Toomey-Stout (4×100, 51.11; 4×200, 1:50.86).

Coupeville swept the relays when Lauren Bayne, McKenzie Meyer, Abby Parker and Madison Rixe won the 4×400 (5:16.18).

Grove (200, 28.29) and Meyer (pole vault, 5-06) added individual wins.

Winners for the boys were Gabe Carlson (800, 2:31.64), Jacob Martin (javelin, 141-08), Cameron Toomey-Stout (long jump, 19-01) and Mitchell Carroll (triple jump, 41-10).
