Coupeville crushes Redhawks 22-0 / Baseball

The Coupeville High School baseball team walloped Port Townsend 22-0 in five innings Wednesday, April 26, at Robert Sherman Field.

This one was over early as the Wolves scored 11 runs in the first inning.

Coupeville tacked on seven in the second and four in the third — piling up 22 runs in just three innings.

The Wolves’ offense was spurred by 12 hits, seven walks and eight PT errors.

Clay Reilly led the offense with a triple, two singles and two RBI. Hunter Smith singled twice and drove in three runs, and Matt Hilborn added two singles for two RBI and walked twice.

Jake Hoagland doubled, and Dane Lucero, Kory Score, Nick Etzell and Julian Welling all recorded base hits.

Smith pitched two innings and struck out three, Lucero threw the next two for four K’s and Thurston pitched the fifth and collected three strikeouts.

Port Townsend had only three baserunners — a first-inning single and error and a fifth-inning walk.

Coupeville (4-2, 9-7) plays at Chimacum (2-4, 4-6) at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 25.
