Unable to upset second-place visiting Marysville-Pilchuck Friday, Feb. 6, the Oak Harbor High School boys basketball team’s goal of reaching the postseason comes down to its final regular-season game.

Oak Harbor (2-7, 3-16) travels to Everett (3-6, 6-13) at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, for the conference finale. If the Wildcats win, they will tie Everett for fourth in the Wesco North. Oak Harbor, however, will hold the tie-breaker over the Seagulls because it will have beaten Everett in both games this season.

The fourth-place team from the 3A North will meet its counterpart from the 3A South Thursday to determine the last Wesco seed into the district tournament.

Marysville-Pilchuck defeated Oak Harbor 85-62 Friday, spoiling Senior Night for the Wildcats.

Oak Harbor coach John Weston started an all-senior lineup, sitting three normal starters.

Marysville-Pilchuck piled up a 17-4 lead in the first three minutes.

At that time, Weston sent in his regulars, and Oak Harbor outscored M-P 14-11 in the remainder of the quarter and trailed 28-18.

The Wildcats’ leading scorer Dyllan Harris, who missed the two previous games with a hand injury, led the surge with eight points.

Zach Jones also had eight points in the quarter, including two three-balls.

Josh Bevan scored 15 for M-P, hitting three from beyond the arc.

The Tomahawks weathered the Oak Harbor burst and pulled away from there, leading 50-31 at halftime and 68-48 after three quarters.

Marysville-Pilchuck’s quick start in the game “kind of took the wind out of our sails,” Weston said. “Marysville-Pilchuck just out-athleticed us.”

“I thought our seniors came in and worked hard and played unselfish basketball,” he added. “All of the seniors were able to contribute in some way.

“The crowd was really into it, and the kids kept battling all the way to the end.”

Akins said Anthony Powell and Jones set the tone early, and Harris, in his return, gave Oak Harbor a “huge lift.”

Harris, who drained a trio of three-pointers, finished with 27 points, and Jones chipped in with 16.

Powell had six points, Ben Fikse four, David Ray two, Sean Erskine two and Jake Sturdevant two.

Bevan topped M-P with 23 points; Michael Painter added 19.

Oak Harbor honored seniors Ray, Powell, Christopher Viers, Jones, Fikse and Sturdevant before the game.
