“Scott Sebens started this cross country season pretty much like he finished the last one: by winning. The Oak Harbor senior was one of many Wildcats to turn in a strong performance at Thursday’s three-team cross country meet at Camp Casey. Shorecrest and Jackson also competed. As the only home meet of the year, the Camp Casey event is a chance for Oak Harbor runners to put on a show for the home crowd. Sebens, Oak Harbor’s standout runner, grabbed the lead early and never relinquished it on his way to victory on the 4 kilometer course. His time was 13.17.5, nearly six seconds ahead of second-place finisher Cory Nuro of Jackson.I just wanted to win and keep up a pretty good pace, Sebens said. I felt good.It was the 12th time Sebens has won a cross country meet while running for the Wildcats, which breaks a 35-year-old school record previously held by Gary Lineberg.Eric Rooney was second for Oak Harbor, fourth overall in 13:29.6. Rooney ran a strong race and had a chance to finish on the heals of Sebens, but fell behind down the stretch.I’m not known for my speed, Rooney conceded afterward. But I feel good about (the race). Also turning in a strong race for the boys varsity was freshman Derek Wirth, who logged a time of 14:40.8.In the girls varsity race, Beth Cullen was the top Oak Harbor finisher. Her time of 17:16.5 was good enough for third place overall. Brianne King was next for the Wildcats in 17:52.8. The girls were without two of their top five runners, but still finished second. We have a good team this year and I hope we make Districts, Cullen said.Camp Casey MeetBOYS VARSITYJackson 32, Shorecrest 45, Oak Harbor 51Individual: 1 Scott Sebens OH 13:17.5; 2 Cory Nuro J 13:23.3; 3 Evan Wirkkala J 13:23.4; 4 Eric Rooney OH 13:29.6; 5 Spencer Walsh SC 13:43.1; 6 Devin Paschke J 13:47.0; 7 Noel Pelland SC 13:52.6; 8 Kevin Hanson SC 14:00.5; 9 Derek Haynes J 14:07.0; 10 Tahoma Khalsa SC 14:08.6; 1 Chris Pulliam OH 14:10.7; 12 Matt Curry J 14:11.4; 13 Jordan Hamm J 14:19.2; 14 Brandon Renfrow J 14:19.6; 15 Jon Robison SC 14:35.0; 16 Ben Robison SC 14:35.7; 17 Wes Hartman OH 14:40.6; 18 Derek Wirth OH 14:40.8; 19 Matt Bezold OH 15:04.2; 20 Greg Dillard OH 15:13.9; 21 Brandon Hill OH 15:33.6; 22 David Symons J 15:34.1; 23 Scott Evans OH 15:38.4; 24 Adam Carlton SC 15:46.6GIRLS VARSITYJackson 26, Oak Harbor 42, Shorecrest 65Individual: 1 Brittany Duke J 16:44.4; 2 Alexa Perbix SC 17:12.7; 3 Beth Cullen OH 17:16.5; 4 Becky Barclay J 17:40.0; 5 Brianne King OH 17:52.8; 6 Maddy Hoard J 18:04.5; 7 Syrena Rimalard J 18:16.5; 8 Virginia Queeno OH 18:22.0; 9 Jenny Morris J 18:33.7; 10 Jamie Storm J 18:35.0; 11 Lauren Lewis SC 18:39.7; 12 Kristine Petersen OH 18:42.7; 13 Kristine Duncan J 18:44.4; 14 Sarah Brundidge OH 19:29.1; 15 Tamara Hayes SC 19:37.0; 16 Crystal Bronnes OH 19:44.5; 17 Stephanie Sullivan OH 19:46.9; 18 Zita Ducan SC 19:52.7; 9 April Dickinson SC 20:28.0; 20 Christina Cooper OH 21:20.0; 21 Lynn Carlson SC 22:40.5BOYS JUNIOR VARSITYOak Harbor 27, Jackson 28, Shorecrest 70Individual Oak Harbor: 3 Richard Carter OH 15:22.8; 4 Travis Frakes OH 15:33.2; 5 Steve Lemme OH 15:35.9; 6 Tim Riney OH 15:44.1; Tyler Marriott OH 15:52.4; 13 Chad Tacia OH 16:12.1; 14 Evan Freeman OH 16:12.8; 16 Adam Shelly OH 16:21.1; 18 Jacob Ovalle OH 16:29.1; Stefan Kulpa OH 17:16.3; 32 Jon Garcia OH 17:19.2; 43 Steve Marriott OH 17:52.4; 45 Erik Lokkins OH 18:00.7; 46 AJ Pulliam OH 18:02.6; 47 Tyler Eelkema OH 18:07.0; 48 Jared Davis OH 18:23.9; 50 Chris Vrbas OH 18:44.7; 53 Rory Magana OH 19:14.1; 56 Aidrien Wilkins OH 21:01.6GIRLS JUNIOR VARSITYJackson 25, Oak Harbor 30Individual Oak Harbor: 2 Yuki Norton OH 17:06.4; 5 Ashley Denton OH 17:21.0; 6 Danielle Berg OH 17:22.4; 8 Jami Garcia OH 17:37.5; 9 Kristen Buckley OH 17:41.1; 13 Jenna Wehrell OH 18:31.6; 16 Kristina Karnes OH 19:22.3; 17 Meredith Schulte OH 19:27.5; 18 Rachel Cichowski OH 19:41.2; 21 Jessica Jewell OH 20:30.3; 24 Emily Hilberdink OH 20:47.6 “
