After a 20-minute scoreless battle, the Mount Vernon High School soccer team got its offense going for a 4-0 win over visiting Oak Harbor Tuesday, March 17.

The Wildcats went toe-to-toe with MV until a “communication problem” led to a Bulldog score midway through the first half, according to Wildcat coach Brian Thompson.

“The score had us scrambling for about 15 minutes,” Thompson said, “and they scored two more times before the half.

“After the half, we changed our line up and came back out strong.”

Oak Harbor had two excellent scoring opportunities, but shots by J.J. Mitchell and Taylor Yancey thumped off the post.

Thompson said Mount Vernon (1-0) is a “very strong and fast team” and that his club “learned a lot from playing them.”

Oak Harbor (0-2) meets Mariner (0-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
