Boys wrestlers head to district tournament

The Oak Harbor wrestling team is headed to Monroe to compete in the District 1, 3A North tournament.

An experienced Oak Harbor wrestling team starts its postseason this weekend when they travel to Monroe Saturday to compete in the District 1, 3A North tournament that is comprised of mostly Wesco North and Northwest Conference 3A schools.

The Wildcats finished the season with a 7-3 record in the Northwest Conference and an overall record of 17-5. Coach Aaron McBride said seniors Ethan Bazar and Josiah Christopherson have over 30 wins over the season and Elias Hernandez-Cruz, Joel Christopherson and Ronnie Grubner have over 20 wins.

Joel and Josiah Christopherson and Kenny Anguiano competed at the state tournament in 2024.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class from the District 1 North tournament and the top four wrestlers in each weight class from the District 1 South tournament advances to state. The south tournament takes place Saturday at Edmonds Woodway.

The fifth-place wrestlers from both tournaments will wrestle each other Wednesday at Stanwood. The winners of those matches advance to state while the other goes as an alternate.

The state tournament, the Mat Classic, takes place Feb. 20-22 at the Tacoma Dome. The 3A boys and girls tournaments take place Feb. 20-21 and the 1A boys and girls tournaments take place Feb. 21-22.
