The No. 1 ranked Oak Harbor bowling team held true to its spot among Washington high schools in the first day of the two-day state tournament.

Oak Harbor finished Saturday’s action in first place in the 46th Annual Washington State Bowling Proprietors’ Association High School Championships at Lilac Lanes in Spokane.

Oak Harbor racked up 23 points and 5,010 scratch pins to lead second-place Moses Lake by two points (21 points, 4,807 pins) in the eight-team Division I.

Oak Harbor’s second team is eighth out of 10 teams in Division II (15; 4,175); Cascade leads the division (23.5; 4,469).

Coach Jason Youngsman said, “The varsity one kids are performing well. If we tighten up our spare shooting then I feel we will take home the title. The varsity two boys started real slow and then made some great adjustments and our now only eight points out of first, I believe. We are definitely the talk of the tournament and things are looking promising.”

He added that Jacob Miller and Michael Kincy made the first-team all-star team by 219 and 214 respectively.

The tournament will conclude Sunday, Feb. 20.
