Blue Heron rearrange club’s top-16 list / NWAC

North Whidbey Aquatic Club swimmers shuffled the club’s top-16 long-course list with a strong effort at the Wine Country Open in Toppenish June 17 and 18.

The Blue Heron produced more than 40 new NWAC top-16 long-course times in the meet, led by Nick Shashaty, 9, who was 8-for-8 over the weekend.

Ashleigh Merrill, 14, won four events and finished second in two others. Lecya Santiago, 12, also collected a win to go along with two seconds.

Grace Chargualaf, 14, was named Swimmer of the Meet by coach Dick Taylor after clocking life-time bests in seven of eight swims. Her time of 37.32 in the 50-meter butterfly is fifth best on the NWAC record board.

Haley Borja, 9, added six more club top-16 times to her already impressive file, and two of her times (50 free, 32.85; 100 free, 1:12.53) landed her on the national top-20 list.

Oak Harbor High School foreign exchange student Enrique Perez, 17, joined NWAC just for this meet and earned seven club top-16 times.

Others putting their names on the NWAC top-16 board were Jasmine Borja, Isaac Brady, Caitlin Dennen, Diandra Dominguez, Cassidy Drown, Merrill, Santiago and Chris Shashaty.
