Battle on the Island set for Saturday / Taekwondo

Battle on the Island, a taekwondo tournament sponsored by Armstrong’s ATA Martial Arts, takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at Coupeville High School.

This official ATA Licensed B tournament is open to all ages and ranks. Opening ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m.

ATA Taekwondo is worldwide and teaches Songaham Taekwondo.

Tournament host Robert Armstrong expects competitors 3 years old and above to attend from the region, which includes Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Canada.

Honored guests include Chief Master Nominee Ken Church, Master Russ Duer, Master Keagan Ireland and Master Nominee Patricia Church.

The event will also feature bounce houses and the ShoNuff food truck.

Admission is $5.

Tigers will compete immediately after opening ceremonies, staging will continue throughout the tournament starting with the youngest first, and black belts will compete throughout the day.

Competitors must bring all their competition slips to the staging area.

Divisions and ring assignments will be determined during staging. Ring assignments will be announced by the tournament staff.
