Jessica Denmon and Nicole Mowbray of the Oak Harbor High School girls team and Mike Washington on the boys side topped the local teams’ selections to the all-Wesco North basketball teams.
Denmon, who received the second most votes from her Wesco opponents, and Mowbray, who finished third in the voting, were both chosen for the all-Wesco six-girl first team.
Monroe’s Suzanna Ohlsen was the top vote getter. Lake Stevens’ Stephanie Schumacher, Arlington’s Quinn Kesselring and Monroe’s Sammi Clark rounded out the first-team squad. Ohlsen is a junior; the others are all seniors.
Denmon edged Ohlsen for the league scoring title, 19.8 points per game to 19.6. Mowbray was fourth in Wesco North scoring with a 13.7 average.
Denmon was first-team all-league last year; Kesselring and Schumacher second team; and Ohlsen, Clark and Mowbray honorable mention.
Washington, for the second year in a row, was chosen for the all-Wesco North second team.
He finished second in Wesco North scoring, averaging 18 points per game. Lake Stevens’ Shane Kaska led the league with a 19.8 average.
The Wesco North five-boy first team included four seniors, Kaska, Stanwood teammates Kale Schmidt and Zack Johnson, and Cascade’s Chris McGrath; and junior Eric Carlson of Arlington.
Kaska, Schmidt, Johnson and McGrath were all first-team selections last year.
Washington, who finished seventh in the voting and four points from making the first team, was one of two sophomores on the second team.
Oak Harbor senior Rashaad Smith and junior Jay Stout were honorable mention for the second year.
