Breaking out of an offensive slump, the Coupeville High School baseball team walloped Granite Falls 16-3 at Sherman Field Monday, March 29.

The Wolves scored just four runs during a three-game losing streak last week and were also outscored 15-2 in the first inning. They cured those first-inning blues in a big way against the Tigers by piling up nine runs in the bottom of the first.

The big inning was highlighted by Chad Brookhouse’s two-run home run. Winning pitcher JD Wilcox added a two-run double, and Erik King and Ian Smith each recorded two-run singles.

Wilcox finished the day 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in. Smith was 2-or-2 and scored four runs.

King was 2-for-4 with four RBI, and Kevin Eaton 2-for-2 with a double.

In all, the Wolves racked up 13 hits in just four innings in a game shortened by the 10-run rule.

The game was the final contest for senior three-sport star Jason Bagby who will have shoulder surgery this week to repair an injury from the football season that never healed.

Coupeville (1-3, 3-3) will resume its three-game series with the Tigers (1-6, 1-7) Wednesday, March 31, in Granite Falls and then finish it this Friday in Coupeville.
