The Coupeville High School baseball team’s six-game win streak came to an abrupt halt Monday when first-place Cedarcrest defeated the visiting Wolves 10-0 in five innings Monday, April 19.

The Wolves (7-6, 9-6) committed eight infield errors and scratched out just one single in the loss to the state’s defending 2A champions.

The Red Wolves, currently ranked third in the state 2A poll, slugged 12 hits (including three home runs) to run their record to 12-0 (12-1).

Coupeville coach Willie Smith called the game “the worst.” He was frustrated that the Wolves’ offense couldn’t generate more than Alex McClain’s infield single against a pitcher that didn’t have one-hit stuff.

Seven of Cedarcrest’s 10 runs were a result of the three home runs. Smith said, “That is what happens when you get the ball up.”

Smith also pointed out that is what happens when pitchers are forced to throw “a lot more pitches” than they should because of eight errors.

The two teams meet Wednesday, April 21, at Coupeville at 4 p.m., then return to Cedarcrest Friday, April 23.
