Bad bounces sink Wildcats / Soccer

Ball doesn’t roll Wildcats’ way in soccer loss

Lady Luck wasn’t on the side of the Oak Harbor High School soccer team as the Wildcats lost 2-0 at Meadowdale Tuesday, Sept. 27.

“Both of the goals were just very unlucky,” coach Mike Lonborg said. “(On) the first, the ball bounced off the crossbar and then they headed it in. The second, the ball bounced around off a corner kick and we couldn’t clear it. My girls were in great position but didn’t see the ball.”

Both goals came in the second half after a scoreless first period.

“The girls are playing hard,” Lonborg said. “They are not giving up but have just been very unlucky. Sometimes you have to make your own luck, too.

“Mikhaela Cortez continues to do a amazing job on the back line. Jessica Vester stepped up from the JV team to fill a spot due to injury and played well.”

Oak Harbor (0-5, 2-7) goes to Everett (0-4, 2-5-1) for a 7 p.m. match Thursday, Sept. 29, at Lincoln Field.
