Although Oak Harbor collected three individual championships and eight top-four finishes, the Wildcat wrestling team was edged by Sultan in the 11-team Jack Reynolds Memorial Tournament at Mercer Island High School Saturday, Jan. 18.

Although Oak Harbor collected three individual championships and eight top-four finishes, the Wildcat wrestling team was edged by Sultan in the 11-team Jack Reynolds Memorial Tournament at Mercer Island High School Saturday, Jan. 18.

The Turks nipped Oak Harbor 154-149 although the Wildcats had one more wrestler place. Sultan won 28 of its 41 individual matches with 21 pins; Oak Harbor won 26 with 16 pins.

Host Mercer Island finished third in the team race with 120 points.

Oak Harbor also received the tournament’s team sportsmanship award, voted on by the coaches and officials.

Jeremy Vester (132 pounds), Jahleel Vester (138) and Jackson Constant (285) finished first in their weight classes; Mark Johnston (152) placed second; and Christian Bertram (113), Jacob Dugin (195) and Tyler Adamson (285) snared thirds.

Carl Caidic (120) and Ray Quinday (220) finished fourth.

Garrett Stahl (106), Sebastian Ceaser (145) and Kekai Tarrant (170) tied for fifth.

Oak Harbor did not enter wrestlers in two classes (126 and 160).

The Wildcats go to Stanwood at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24.
