4 Wildcats place at Edmonds Invitational / Boys wrestling

Four Oak Harbor High School boy wrestlers placed at the Edmonds Invitational Saturday, Dec. 1, at Edmonds-Woodway High School.

As a team, the Wildcats placed 16th out of 31 with 64.5 points in their first competition of the season. Yelm claimed the team title with 202 points.

Blake McBride (152 pounds) paced Oak Harbor by taking fourth. Cole Valdez (106) took fifth, and Caleb Fitzgerald (132) and Nate Nunez (285) finished sixth.

Coupeville’s Alex Turner (182), who trains with Oak Harbor, won two of four matches. He opened with a 14-8 win, lost by a fall (1:48), won 9-7 and lost 6-0.

Oak Harbor also sent a group to the junior varsity tournament at Snohomish Saturday. Nine Wildcats placed: Zachary Badaouie (150-159), fourth; Evan Beerbower (156-167), fourth; Nathan Kolden (238-254), fifth; Ryan Sanchez (96-105), sixth; Charles Brooks (130-136), sixth; Zachary English (174-182), sixth; Nolan Byng (192-207), sixth; Jeremy Lujan (136-143), seventh; and Viktor Cononge (114-117), eighth.

Next up for the Oak Harbor varsity boys is a trip to Decatur High School in Federal Way for the Hurricane Harris Invitational at 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8.
