32 Oak Harbor athletes earn berths in district meet / Track

Thirty-two individuals from the Oak Harbor High School track team qualified for the district meet after finishing in the top seven at the Wesco North Divisional Championships Wednesday and Friday, May 9 and 11, at Arlington High School.

The District 1 meet is 3 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, May 16 and 18, at Shoreline Stadium. The best three in each event earn spots in the state meet.

Host Arlington won both the boys and girls team titles at the North championships, while Oak Harbor took third in the boys and fourth in the girls out of seven schools.

The Eagles ran away with the boys meet, scoring 199 points, 74 more than runner-up Stanwood. Oak Harbor had 107. In the girls meet, Arlington tallied 168.5 and the Wildcats 89.

The top seven in each event automatically qualified for district. Oak Harbor could add to its list of qualifiers; the next two best marks based upon the outcome of the North, South and Northwest Conference meets (for 3A Ferndale and Squalicum) will also qualify.

Oak Harbor produced just two Wesco North champions, both on the boys side.

Isaac Gomez captured the discus (149-08), and Dorian Hardin, Taeson Hardin, Andrew Miller and Jeff Gordon finished first in the 4×100 relay (43.01).
