3 Wildcats qualify for district | Tennis

Singles player Makenzie Perry and the doubles team of Faith Franssen and Caterina Amsler will represent Oak Harbor High School in the district tennis tournament after placing in the top four at the Wesco 3A North tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, May 13 and 14, in Stanwood.

Singles player Makenzie Perry and the doubles team of Faith Franssen and Caterina Amsler will represent Oak Harbor High School in the district tennis tournament after placing in the top four at the Wesco 3A North tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, May 13 and 14, in Stanwood.

Perry finished third and Franssen and Amsler fourth at the Wesco North meet. The district tournament is Tuesday and Wednesday, May 20 and 21, in Stanwood.

Perry opened the Wesco tournament by defeating Stanwood’s Shyla Allen 6-1, 6-1. She then lost to Everett’s Kindall Gordon 6-0, 6-2.

Perry won twice on Wednesday to snare third, defeating Abby Spencer of Stanwood 6-3, 6-4 and Amber Smith of Everett 6-4, 6-0.

Franssen and Amsler opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Marysville Getchell’s Danielle Santos and Lilly Lee, followed by a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Stanwood’s Mariah Orcutt and Alyssan Sanford.

Wednesday, they defeated Everett’s Caroline Overstreet and Emma Pountain 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 and lost the match for third and fourth to Sarah Cronin and Claire Esser of Marysville-Pilchuck 6-0, 6-3.

In other singles action Tuesday, Oak Harbor’s AnnaBelle Whitefoot lost 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 in the play-in first round and was eliminated.

The Wildcat duo of Zena Husler and Alyssa Eden lost 6-2, 6-2 in the doubles quarterfinals, then 7-5, 6-3 in the consolation bracket and were eliminated.
