1st-place Tomahawks hold off Oak Harbor / Boys basketball

League-leading Marysville-Pilchuck built a big lead in the third quarter and then held off a charge by the visiting Oak Harbor High School boys basketball team for a 63-47 win Friday, Jan. 18.

The eighth-ranked Tomahawks (10-0, 13-3) remain unbeaten in Wesco play with the win.

Marysville-Pilchuck, leading 25-18 at halftime, exploded for 28 points in the third quarter to go up 53-33 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats trimmed the deficit to 9 points, but the Tomahawks “were able to make some key shots to extent their lead,” according to Oak Harbor coach John Weston.

Oak Harbor was missing two players and several others got into foul trouble, straining the Wildcats’ depth, according to Weston.

Despite the loss, Oak Harbor received a big game from Dorian Hardin. The senior pumped in a game-high 25 points and limited M-P star, RaeQuan Battle, a University of Washington signee, to 11 points.

“Terrell Crumpton also had a good night for us, playing tough defense and scoring in transition to help us in our fourth-quarter run,” Weston said.

“I thought our guys played hard against a really good team,” Weston added.

Crumpton finished with 7 points, Gavin Allen 6, Matt Kelley 6, Kevin Schuldt 2 and Haven Brown 1.

Oak Harbor (2-7, 4-11) finishes its suspended game from Dec. 14 with Shorewood (4-4, 5-9) at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at home. The game was halted seconds into the fourth quarter by a power outage; the Wildcats were leading 46-42.

Oak Harbor hosts Snohomish (2-8, 5-11) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23.
