Stanwood High School remained unbeaten in Wesco North tennis by defeating Oak Harbor 5-2 Thursday, April 30, on the Wildcats' courts.

Stanwood High School remained unbeaten in Wesco North tennis by defeating Oak Harbor 5-2 Thursday, April 30, on the Wildcats’ courts.

The Spartans ran their league record to 8-0 (10-2 overall).

Oak Harbor’s two wins came in the top two singles matches.

Makenzie Perry came from behind to capture first singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. AnnaBelle Whitefoot took the second singles match 6-1, 6-4.

Tamia Rios fell in third singles 6-1, 7-5; and Erina Horikawa was forced to retire while trailing 4-1 in the third set of fourth singles. She split the first two sets 6-3.

The Wildcats lost all three doubles matches: 1, Alyssa Eden/Hannah Guth lost 6-3, 6-2; 2, Ellysa Bonganay/Ria Bains lost 6-3, 4-3 (default); and 3, Lauren Aspery/Elma Maria Empinado lost 6-0, 6-4.

Oak Harbor’s Aelizah Espiritu and Emily Black combined to win an exhibition match 8-6.

The Wildcats (4-4, 5-8) finish up league play next week with two matches at 3:30 p.m. They go to Arlington (1-6, 4-8) Monday, May 4, and host Marysville Getchell (5-3, 7-5) Tuesday, May 5.
