Letter: Pre-election story about candidate was sensationalized

Editor,

I was shocked to see a sensationalized South Whidbey Record front page article about Clyde Shavers, printed three days before Election Day. It read like a tabloid, “father turns on son…” If The Record was truly interested in news, it could have merely vetted the claims made by Shavers’ father. The public is not served by your exploiting this private relationship between a father and son. Our common sense of decency and humanity has suffered from your reporting.

Editor’s note: The story was written by an Everett Herald reporter who did contact Shavers to vet the letter and get his response.
