Winabel May Nettleton of El Sobrante, Calif., passed into the Lord’s hands on July 28, 2004, at age of 92 in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded by her husband of many years, John S. Nettleton. She was born in Oak Harbor on Nov. 27, 1911, to William Joshua Jackson and Isabel Jackson (Stoddart) and was the sister to Donald Jackson. She served as a telephone operator at the Oak Harbor and Coupeville telephone switchboards. She was also married to G.O. VanDyk prior becoming a WAC. She served with the 75th WAC detachment of the 8th Army Air Force Fighter Command at Bushey Hall (Ajax), England as a switchboard operator. She lived in El Sobrante and Napa, Calif., and San Antonio.
She is survived by her son Donald W. Nettleton, three grandchildren, Jeff Nettleton, Tim Nettleton and Lisa Kazmar; and six great grandchildren. She will be interred with her mother and brother on Friday, May 25 at 2 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville.
